Poco is doing well. In fact tonight was his first night out in his
pasture with the other geldings. He has been hanging out in the paddock
adjacent to the pasture to get to know his new friends and see how they are
in there pasture. He did really well, with only the one horse that is the
"king" of that pasture chase him just a little. But the coolest part is the
horse Cody that I just love seemed to take him under his wing and be his
buddy. That will just be too cool if my favorite horse is my favorite
pony's best friend.
Also, Poco participated and got to whitness his first horse show this past
weekend at our barn. It was a great experience especially since we had such
a huge turnout. I rode him before the show during all the set up and
schooling and he did well, only a couple of baby spooks. Then I also rode
him in an adult walk/trot and he got 4th out of 6, even though it was hard
to keep his attention with all the tents and chairs around the ring. I was
really proud of him for not being a freek...just courious about all that was
going on. I know it will just take a few show miles and he will be like an
old pro. Also, my daughters mentor friend, Megan Long took him in a
showmanship class. Acutally my daughter took Megan's horse and showed
against her. Kaylyn and Cody Girl won but they should have Cody Girl is 15
and is a showmanship pro- who has won at the State Horse Show for several
years. But Poco did well, for only practicing Showmanship for one week.
Planning on having Megan continue to work with him and actually take him to
the 4H district horse show in May so that he can get used to it before
Kaylyn will be taking him to qualify in a few years. I think it will be
great if her mentor can begin to show him in ponies before Kaylyn has to so
that he could have the miles and be used to our district and state show.
Our goal for this coming May is to be ready for Showmanship, the pony flat
classes and maybe Hunter Hack. It would be too cool if he qualifies in May
to go to the 4H State Horse show in July. Granted he has a couple of years
before he has to go, but it would be neat for him to see the State Horse
Show grounds in July of next year. Its nice that Kaylyn's mentor is someone
I have alot of respect for as a young rider, especially since I can only
show him in open shows due to being a little bit aged out for the ponies
division, it will be cool to have someone who can work with him in the 4H
shows to help get him ready for Kaylyn. Megan and her dad were the ones who
helped me pick up Poco and go to the vet, so its really awsome they are
being so supportive. (Jessica 8/06)
August 2006
I cannot thank you enough for all you have
done to help my dreams come true. I feel so blessed to have such a
wonderful mannered and affectionate horse. Its just icing on the cake that
he is such a great mover too!!!
His welcome home went great. My mom, husband and my husbands parents came
to meet him. Poco was welcomed with treats and gifts including a gift
basket full of apples, oats and molases. I think he has enought treats
stocked up to last him a year!! Many of the other boarders made a special
trip out tonight to meet him. Everyone just loves him and thinks he is so
beautiful.
He trailered great and seemed very comfortable within minutes of being at
Brandywine. It worked out especially well because our farrier Marcus Pierce
came by and also got to meet him. He was extremly impressed and told me I
had a VERY nice pony and he looked forward to working with him.
Since meeting him on Friday my life seems to be a dream coming true. I look
forward to working with him and watching him grow and learn. He especially
seemed to enjoy the day with his new best buddy- Kaylyn. It was like he
knew he was coming home. Cannot wait till after work tomorrow when I can
go visit him again.
Thank you so much for making my first horse/pony buying experience so
pleasurable.
I have attached a couple pictures to share from his welcome home afternoon.
